So you are thinking about getting a new shredder, but you don’t know where to start. There are so many types of shredders and features that leave your head spinning. It is not that difficult to pick out the shredder you need. I will help you.
First off, in what kind of setting will you be using your shredder? In the office or at home? Do you need a personal model or an industrial/commercial paper shredder
How many people will be using the shredder throughout the day? How often will it be used? Will it be used continuously? If you will be sending a lot of traffic to the machine you should probably invest in a good commercial paper shredder.
How much security do you need? The whole point of shredding is for document security. For a long time, the strip cut paper shredder was the usual shredder to go with; that is until the crosscut paper shredder became inexpensive. Crosscut paper shredders should be plenty of security; however if you want even more, then go with a micro cut shredder.
What materials would you like to shred in your crosscut paper shredder? You can shred a lot more than paper, nowadays. Some models will shred Cds/Dvds, credit cards, paperclips and staples.
What about shredder safety? Never pass on shredders with great safety features. Some use safesense, which will shutdown if it senses fingers, a hand or a dog’s tongue near the shredder opening. However you should still always turn off your shredder, unplug it, and put the shredder away if you have toddlers or pets nearby.
Additional features. There are a variety of features that some manufactures have on certain machines, such as jam proof. It will stop if it senses too much paper being feed, or if the paper is folded in a way that would make it jam.
These are a few things to think about when shopping for your next shredder.
